Bah Humm-Digity

I've been having a hard time getting into the Spirit of Christmas.
For some reason, I struggle at having to listen to the 2 radio stations that play Christmas music
all day, everyday, since November 1st.

I
JUST
CAN'T
DO
IT

Someone please b-slap it into me.

I HAVE, however, found myself listening to
a little different type of Christms Music that I can't get enough of.

It's not the traditional songs we have grown up with.
It's better than that.
Better than the songs we hear over and over again for 30 straight days.

So here's the deal:

I need your help getting me MORE into the Christmas spirit

You make a comment or send me your most unique photo, decoration, poem, dance move, or
whatever it is you do to get you into the festive mood and
I will send you a CD of my Christmas Gig Playlist that I currently have on repeat!

*send to kristyuzelacatgmaildotcom or leave an awesome comment on this blog*

Beside, what better way to avoid my birthday
than to bring out more christmas spirits,
and i'm not talking hard liquor!

SF Peeps

This past weekend was spent all around California.
Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Sonoma, Napa, Sacramento, Pleasanton, and San Jose.
Along with every where in between.

It was great to get back to all the places i've been before
and even better to be with good friends,
 celebrating two happy weddings.

I could go into detail of all the laughs that Justin, Silvia and I had this past weekend
but we promised "what happens in the Marriot, stays in the Marriot."
Just know that I laughed A LOT this weekend.

Here's to the Happy Couple: Chris & Gladys Allen

Thank you for such an amazing union of two beautiful people! heart ya!
(and no he's not the guy from Modern Family)
To the crazy couple: Justin & Silvia McLeod
You guys are hilarious, thanks for the laughs! Love you both!!
To my lovely PZ's: Gladys &Silvia
SF has never been the same without us 3!

And my girls: Katie & Erica
Best night ever "catching up" but i'm still sad we didn't make Erica pee her pants.....entirely.

Do You Know.....

The Way To San Jose? La la la la lala la la laa

What happens when you spend an amazing evening with your girls at the Sara Bareilles concert?

You forget to transfer your I.D. From your back pocket and back into your wallet.

How do you know this?

You find yourself driving back home after getting to the airport for your flight.

Good thing I ignored my usual tendency to arrive 20 minutes before taking off and got myself to the airport 2 1/2 hours before the boarding time.

I was so relaxed that on the drive home I forgot that I was flying out and started planning the rest of my night in.

Just goes to show how crazy busy I've been. Sister needs a vacation.....maybe I'll get one for Christmas, if I'm good. :)

Amen Sister

Words from a wise friend of mine:

"i think it is easier when we just accept that
a large majority of life is going to suck"

It's true. Life is so much easier when you realize that early on and roll with the punches.
Youknow, "grab the bull by the horns and make out with it"
love you Sizzle!

Oh, and don't forget to vote for Jim's Video today!

Hoopes Gives Hope

My sister submitted a video for my bro-in-law to get lasik eye surgery.  She entered under the "serious" category and if you knew Jim's story, you'll understand why. We couldn't make something like this up.

So please PLEASE, for the love of all that is Holy, vote, and vote everyday until Nov. 29th.

If you don't think we're serious, check out my sister's blog. Or my other sister.

We mean business. We may be pulling out the big guns at everyone's heart strings but come on, with a video like that and for free lasik, how could we not?

Powder in Utah

The new company I work at is pretty awesome.
They have a gym here that you can use anytime.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Look what I found in the kitchen next to the $6,000 water filter........

Tyrone, remember that one time when Shanna played with you on stage? Remember how you sore we had met before and thanked me for coming like we were old friends?
Just go along with what I told Shanna: we DO know each other because you are Dan Fife, my good friend from SF and you sometimes go by Tyrone Wells

Oh Andrew Belle, you're in my veins and I can not get you out!

"Isn't She Lovely....."

So, if you haven't heard, my brother is getting married.

I had the pleasure of shooting their engagement photos
and let me tell you what,
Travis and Sommer are DARLING!

Sommer is the most well put together girl who couldn't be nicer
and who also happens to have the best smile ever.

It's a good thing Travis makes her laugh so much.

 What a good look'n pair!

Congratulations Bro!  LOVE YA!!

Let It Be Known.....

.....that life has been crazy lately.

Not only has it been stressful, busy, tiresome, and up in the air, I have also been in a funk and trying to sort things out.  You could say that I've masked this all by conveniently being out of town-A LOT, thus allowing myself to not show any emotion in front of you all, which may be the case, but I would also like to say, I've just learned to put on a happy face and roll with the punches.
One thing that I have learned over the years (2-3 to be exact) is that it's OK to be a girl: to show emotion.
To let others in, to share with them my life, my stories, my ups and downs, my trials and my dreams.

I was talking with a really close friend of mine. She and I have been through a lot together. Shared a lot with each other and have been the counter balance to one another. After talking about what was going on, she told me I had to email her a list of specific things.
This is the email I sent but I would like to address it to all of you who have been a big part of my life.

Well, I think this is the part where I let you all into my life: this is the real me, nothing left to hide.

Friends,

Ok, so I know it's been a few (too many) weeks since you asked for this but i've had to do a lot of thinking.

It's easy to put something like this together when things are going for you in your life. When the sun is shining and you skip with a step. However, the best lists are the ones you give when you have nothing to give at all. When you are trying to climb out of the deep hole you have found yourself in, when you're the only one with a constant rain cloud over head, you have to walk to the grocery store to buy your weeks worth of food in the rain and on the way home, all your bags break.

So here it is. The things i'm grateful for:

Friends: the ones who sit with you on your bed in your parents basement and cry with you and share their spiritual experiences that helped them get through the same situation.  The friend who calls you from thousands of miles away because she's been worried about you and will help you talk things through. The ones who are balanced when you are not, so they can be the ones to console you, give you kind words of hope, and who will hold your hair as you purge the sadness you have built up inside.
Family: to have them close and to listen to me. To have such a strong bond where we are more than siblings, we are best friends. I can talk to them and they know just what to say or do. To spend time with and laugh when things are funny, cry when someone is sad, and be there for each other no matter what. Nephew's who know how fun it is to scare me. Nieces who get so excited when they see me and want to give me more hugs than I could ever imagine and to see so much love come from such a little person.
This Country: For the freedom we have been given, the efforts of our founding fathers who were inspired and guided by our Heavenly Father who has preserved this land. A land of opportunity. An open road. From California to the New York Island, from the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee....."almost heaven, West Virginia. Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River..."   The vast diversity of one country and the beauty in every little detail.
Health: To be blessed with a "strong physical body and sound mind."  One in which I can take care of through proper food and nutrition, rest, relaxation and exercise.  To be able to allow my spirit to reside and have control in my temple and not let my physical needs overcome what my spirit needs. Having control of my desires and appetites.
The Gospel: To have an understanding of Gods plan. Why we are here. What we are to do. And that we can get through anything when we put our trust in the Lord. That we chose to come down here, to learn and grow, to get a physical body that was necessary. That through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven of our mistakes and have our garments washed clean. To have living prophets here to guide and direct us and to be the voice of the Lord to his people. To have the keys of the priesthood restored. Temples, beautiful, Holy Temples. The clear understanding that comes in the simplest form through the temples of what our role is here on earth and the powerful knowledge of the covenants and promises we have made. The power of prayer: to be able to speak to my Heavenly Father anytime time I want. To tell him my thoughts, my heart, my sadness, my happiness, and to ask for his help and guidance. To have his spirit with me to guide and direct me in my daily life. To protect me, to comfort me, to succor me.  The scriptures to receive the answers to my prayers. To give me the council I seek for, to teach me things that will help me in my time of need and to show me how to live my life. The knowledge I have that my Heavenly Father knows me, knows my heart, and loves me.
Education: The schooling and education I have received to prepare and qualify me for a good job. The knowledge and ability to be good at what I do. The skills and talents I have developed and have been given. The opportunity to finish college and develop those skills needed and enhance the talent I didn't know I had. The opportunity to keep learning and seeking out the things I didn't know I could love.
Travel: The opportunities I have been given to travel and see so many different places, countries, people in this world. More than I can count on two hands. For airplanes that can take me places faster so I can enjoy more. For cars to get around in and run quick errands. Visit friends and family quicker and more often. Motorcycles, the open road, and my safe haven to clear my head and take in the beauty that is around me on the rides. Bicycles that are more fun than motorcycles because you get to enjoy the silence around you and the only thing you can hear is the giggling little girl in your heart. Bike rides with friends, jumping the bumps, riding around the streets and getting hosed by some lady watering her lawn, watching friends scurry across the street......haa ha ha haaaa!  Roller skates, because they are just fun!  Getting out and seeing what the world has to offer and not being distracted by the fast paced life that buzzes by too quickly.
Women: I'm grateful for the women in my life, past and present.  For my grandma's who have taught me how to be kind and loving. For my mom who has shown me how to serve, how to love, and how to prepare one serious food storage. For my sisters, my friends, and all the women around me who respect their god given divinity and duty to raise and care for the future generations of this country and this gospel. To attain in raising righteous sons and daughters who will fight the war against Satan and be valiant like Helaman's army. To be examples to their children or the children around them, showing them what righteous women in the gospel look like. To those who live everyday preparing to be the wife and mother that they pray to be and developing talents and habits that will benefit their future family.
Men: For their manliness. Their protection. Their priesthood. Their council. To see them going to the temple on their own, to receive guidance and direction. Seeing pictures of Christ in their rooms, and know that they are living worthily and doing all they can to serve our Heavenly Father. Upholding their callings and seeing them pass the sacrament, knowing they are worthy to do so.
Talents: For the talents I have been given. The Gifts I have that are to help others. The opportunities to use what Heavenly Father has given me to benefit his children and to reach out to those in need. To be able to use my talents in a way where I can be an instrument in Gods hands.

There are so many more things i'm grateful for that I could name, like pizza, coke, warm rain, herbal tea and cozy blankets, etc. but those are all menial when compared to the things that REALLY mean something to me. The big things that make all the other things seem like little blessings that act as reminders from Heavenly Father that he listens, he loves me, and to just hang on a little bit longer.

I love you, and couldn't be more GRATEFUL for you than I am right now. Thank you for the nights of laughter. The long talks. The comfort it brings me to know that no matter how our conversations start, where they go, they always come back to the gospel. THAT is true friendship, encircling myself with righteous women who love the gospel and have a personal relationship with Heavenly Father.  Thank you for your examples. Your love, your smiles, your energy and enthusiasm.

xoxo

I KNOW THERE'S SOMETHING MORE

"Going for your dream” is not an activity you can do once
and then check off the box.

It involves takes risks,
making decisions,
working hard,
trying again,
and not giving up,
day in and day out,
over and over and over again,
until your dream is realized.

You must “go for it” every day, every hour, every moment,
until what you are waiting for happens.

I'm ready for something to happen

"...We all want to have some faith,
at least that's true in my case,
to just believe..."

Year of The......

Every year my sisters and I find ourselves in a food theme.
It's not selected before hand, it's just something that comes with the cravings we get,
that turns into a year long venture of finding the best one.

For example:
One year for me was The Year of The Oreo
I couldn't get enough of that delicious cookie and even discovered that
I could live off that one food item for an entire month alone.
Another year was The Year of The Nacho
We tried several different locations in search of the best Nacho and to this day
the champion is still Red Iguana's Killer Nacho's.
A few years ago was The Year of the Hamburger
quickly followed by The Year of The Burrito.

This year I am pleased to introduce to you.......
The Year of The Taco
In a conversation with some friends a while back,
while eating gyros in Greece,
we realized that there are several different versions of the taco.

Greece = Gyro
America = Hot Dog
France = Crepe
Middle Eastern = Pitas
Asia = Lettuce Wraps

Now there is some sweet history to this delicious food item, and some sweet pics,
but I think my love started a few years back at Sizzles Aunt and Uncle's house-homemade goodness.

But that was as far as I got to your typical Taco Bell version of the hard shell.
I want the real stuff that look more like this:

sold in something like this:
but not as fancy.

I even think Nancy Reagan loved this back in the White House.
Why else would she have came up with this addition to her original slogan:

So if any of you are craving Mexican food anytime this year,
you know who to call because i'll tell you what......

I know I haven't posted in a 'coon's age but i'm back from my travels so I can now fill you in,
but until I begin, let me just introduce to you all a friend of mine.
Rick and I are close friends from San Francisco and let me just tell you, with the combination of our spontaneity and humor, there have been many memorable moments with Uzi and Buck.

1. The time we went to Hawaii, just barely knowing each other, and posed as a newly wed couple at the PCC and then faked out all our friends with the show stopping "kiss"

2. The Homecoming game where I was the head cheerleader supporting her star football player by sporting his class ring and letterman's jacket before the game.
My mom still has our Homecoming photo framed on the mantle..

3. The many parties we rocked, including The Mint Karaoke Bar!

4. Remember that time around the 1st of April when I told you I needed a ride back from LA because I broke my leg (slammed myself off the bed and against the wall) reenacting Van Halen to his song JUMP in the hotel room. We then enjoyed a 4 hour road trip singing along to every song on your ipod while holding the computer speakers to our ears (because your car stereo got stolen) and we tried to see who could lose their voice first. Good times man, good times!

LOVE THIS GUY!  Check out his tape for The Mormon Bachelorette

HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY AMERICA

Oh what a fabulous Fourth

I love the chance to go to a place where I can sit back and people watch,
it's a highlight of any holiday especially ones that include fairs.
Unfortunately, there were so many and I couldn't snap enough photo's in time to get a good shot, (next time i'll have to bring my real camera)
So enjoy my favorite shots of the night:

"i hate my job, i hate my job, i HATE my job!"

And the blessed fireworks that were going off to Neil Diamond's Coming to America.
Could that BE anymore patriotic?  I don't think so!

Happy Birthday America, hope to see you around for number 235!

So what have I been doing?

Tweet Tweet

There's a reason I don't tweet......aka Twitter
There's a reason I don't lay in the grass under large oak trees
There's a number of reasons why I love the images/design but not the real things.

I don't really "hate" but I could care less about birds, the real things.  To me they are flying rats (pigeons mainly but the others are related somewhere down the line)

When I was 5 our family was going down to Lake Powell for the weekend. It was my job, before getting in the car, to feed and water Sunny (yellow bird) and Brownie (brown bird). Yea, we were REAL creative as kids.

Well, the independent, strong willed, little rat like, Ramona Quimby of a child that I was didn't want to.  Instead of saying "no", I just walked inside the house, while the rest of the family sat in the wagon, and pretended like I was doing what I was asked.

Gig was up when we returned home after the long weekend in the middle of summer and both birds were dead in the kitchen sink.  I wasn't concerned that they were lying in their new resting place after searching for water, I was baffled how they got out of the cage.  (again, I was 5, and even today, I'm still baffled)

I did however decide to be sweet and find some jewelry boxes and have a proper burial service for them in the back yard.
Only to be outdone by my inquisitive nature to try to find them and dig them up less than 2 weeks later.

Sorry birds for not feeding you resulting in your death
Sorry family if I never told you and this is the first time you are hearing of this news
Sorry to myself for the beginnings of bad bird karma. (I constantly get pooped on)

"here I am, at 6 o'clock in the morning........"

well, more like 3 o'clock in the morning, but still thinking. (not about you)

I didn't get any sleep last night.

why?

thinking.

Yea, it's kinda new to me.
I don't usually sit and think much and I don't ever lose sleep.

But last night............ awful.

this stress is starting to take a toll on me.

Just a few things that were running through my mind all night as I lay in bed wide eyed:

  • email committee about meeting
  • send docs to Jayna
  • email reminder about Saturday morning
  • update master list
  • contact Jackson about golfing
  • send out needed equipment list
  • find needed equipment for weekend
  • find camping gear for myself
  • finalize truck and trailer for next weekend
  • type up hand out for Sunday
  • make activity and meal agenda on sheet for next weekend
  • find tables
  • finalize games
  • get items for games
  • figure out sound for announcements
  • email for members on items to bring
  • finalize screen with Mark
  • figure out how sound and night will work
  • measure warehouse and draw up plans
  • edit photos and make Photoshop corrections
  • ooh, find megaphone for announcements
  • what if no one shows up Saturday morning?
  • I need a break
  • I need a vacation
  • I need a stiff drink
  • register for lecture and pick classes
breathe Uzi, just breathe.

Weekend Getaway

You'd think I went to China, but i didn't.
Just San Francisco, but close right!?

May I introduce you to our D-Asia aka Day of Asia:

Spent my time with these lovely ladies
while we went on a walking tour of China Town.
Lot's of fun facts but i'll let you learn for yourself when you go.

Here are some shot's I took while there:

And look who I found, by Brazilian bff turned Asian!
(LOVE YOU SIL!)

Later that night we went to Japan Town to watch this:

GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA
(with English subtitles)

It was so awesome that I may or may not have snapped a few pics

followed by watching Mulan when we got home to settle in for the night.

And that was just a fraction of the weekend! There was the Academy of Science, Ferry Building, BiRite, and a good movie with the WORST soundtrack, Love Story.

Good times, as usual, and beautiful clear weather which was unusual for SF.

Until next time.......

"Come back to me"

This week has been a crazy whirlwind of emotion and events.

HIGHLIGHT:  Brooke's Birthday Bash
Her friends rented out the Tower Theater for a red carpet extravaganza.
So we stepped back in time to really ring in the night
